"Bad marketing - good smoke"

Review Notes: Grabbed a box Christmas '06 and I still have 5 or 6 left. First there is nothing cask strength, full strength, or any of that to be found here. HOWEVER, in terms of a full flavored medium bodied smoke with creamy texture and real nice complexity this is a steal; and the construction backs that up as well. The wrappers are nice and thick with a good suppleness and I haven't had any dogs in the first 15 I smoked. For a $4 stick you can't go wrong here and if they were a robusto size I would buy more for a daily smoke. For what you get for the $ you will not be disappointed.

"An over-hyped cigar."

Review Notes: Sorry to say that, because I think this is an excellent smoke. However, it was billed with the words "cask strength", so everyone figured it was a powerhouse. It's not. It's a medium-bodied stick, it not approacing the medium / full range. I think a previous description of "oak and spice" covers the flavor of this cigar pretty well. Draw, construction, and as are all above average as they are in most of the 5 Vegas line. For $99.00 a box, these are worth getting. Just ignore the "kneeknocker" claims that CI puts out. It's a top-shelf stick with good flavor, but not a ton of power. Definately recommend this cigar.

Review Notes: After a few weeks in the humi, this has kept the flavor and lost a bit of strength..not in a bad way though. I detect more flavor here than before. The smoke is rolling out of this thing as I write this review. A fine cigar at a great 5 vegas price. Nice box too.

Review Notes: Last year I gave a glowing review of this cigar based on my first box. So much so that in the interim I purchased several more boxes through C-Bid. As time passes I'm beginning to understand the more moderate reviews posted, and I suspect some questionable marketing on the part of CI. This "limited production" project manufactured by "the folks at La Aurora" from a "small batch of aged tobacco" certainly has long legs, given the heavy advertising it has gotten over the year. My suspicion was first aroused by the big differences I noted from one box to the next; differences in color, manufacture and taste. For example, one box will have well-made caps, while the next might have simple squares of tobacco pasted on the end. So why do I still rate it highly? Interestingly, I've never yet been disappointed by a single cigar; while they often don't look or taste the same they have always burned well, demonstrated consistent flavor development as the cigar progresses through the smoking, and tasted good. Some, however, have been better than others. It's still a great value; just ignore the hype.

"Approaching Greatness...Needs A Bit More..."

Review Notes: I sell cigars in my store as a fun sideline. Every blend I've tried has been very smokable and has sold due to good quality/price ratios. Heretofore, I believe, 5 Vegas has went after the smoker who would like to smoke let's say Macanudos but is looking for something just about a third to a half less. The fact is that 5-Vegas is achieving that nicely. So what if there's a guy who'd love to smoke an even more top-notch super premium but would never do so regularly because of price? This is where I believe the Cask Strength is suppose to come in. The maker makes no bones about the desire you compare this to Opus X by Fuente. It makes a case that this is the only available alternative with the exact same combination Dominican wrapper with care being given to simulate the filler too. If the smokers was still not convinced then the maker was only too happy to reveal that they are made in the main La Aurora factory known for super premium smokes like it's namesake as well as Ashton. Sounds like exactly the type cigar we're all looking for...Right? So, does it deliver? Not 100%, I'll explain. First, it's too middle strength or even a bit less. Very pleasing, not bold however. Second, it's needs to impart more of a spicy earthy floral taste...bring that profile a bit more to the fore. Finally, it has to be avaiblable in more sizes as I am a firm believer that this has potential and should be tweaked and stroked into the greatness it is on the verge of. As it is I really lke it and if it could be made stronger with more of a taste identity with more sizes it may well be the one cigar I could love without reservations. Please Meier and Aurora...Continue to tweak this one as you or at the begining of greatness here.
