"601's Perfection"

Review Notes: Snagged a box back in July, and I'm now down to my last two, setting four aside to age in a humidor. These puros are a tour de force smoke, at around 70% r/h, with an easy light, and smooth draw (not too loose, not too tight, just right). They're not overwhelmingly spicy like EO's Cubao cigars, but oily and sweet, with hints of fresh ground coffee beans, mocha, ground pepper, and lit cedar. They smoke on average from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, the ash produced is solid ringed layered ash of a peppery gray color. Well worth snagging another box.

Review Notes: Very nice cigar. Make sure these are a bit on the dry side to fully appreciate the maduro wrapper - 68rh or a tad lower to get the burn right. I use a dry box method and get wonderful results. Spicy, toothy wrapper and a good kick, these remind me of the Joya De Nicaraguas of old. Age will tame the kick a little, I suspect these will be delicious given a couple of years. One of the few Pepin G's that I highly recommend.

"Not as enjoyable as La Fuerza"

Review Notes: Great looking smoke with a tighter draw and some burn irregularities. A slight disappointment compared to the La Fuerza. Flavor lacked the spice and taste of the La Fuerza as well. Not a bad stick, just not as great.

"Great shape and a great smoke"

Review Notes: The figurado is a great looking cigar and the dark wrapper made it even more appealing to the eye. Top notch construction, with a perfect draw. Burn started a little uneven due to the shape of the cigar, but was quickly corrected on its own. Med/full bodied cigar with flavors of leather, wood and a spicey finish. A really good late night cigar to smoke under the stars.

"Great cigar."

Review Notes: My local recently received a huge order of 601's (every line!) and this one happened to catch my eye. I snagged one up about three weeks ago and took it from the humi earlier this afternoon. A large perfecto very reminiscent of a Fuente Hemmingway. Beautiful, very dark wrapper with some light veining. Roll felt a little loose up near the cap but still cut perfectly. Pre-light draw was loose. Brewed up a pot of coffee and stepped out onto my back porch. One thing that surprised me about this smoke was that it didn't open with the almost patented Don Pep spice and pepper burst. Instead I was presented with a very smooth taste of cedar. As the smoke went on notes of leather and earth would join in on the finish. On one or two draws I got some subtle sweetness as well. Some people here describe this as full bodied but I would put it more at medium than anything else. The draw remained loose but the cigar smoked cool to the finish. Burn needed two touch ups to prevent some tunneling. Smoked this down to about an inch before harshness and tar began to overwhelm my palate causing me to set this one into the ashtray. Overall, this was a really great cigar. The flavors and strength were just right for an afternoon smoke. I'll definitely be returning to the B&M to snatch up a few more of these before it's too late.
