Review Notes:
A.Fuentes Anejo #50 A cedar wrapped beauty of a corona gorda. The wrapper is a flawless maduro. The construction of this cigar is impeccable. A very firm roll, with no soft spots, or knots.
Prelight aroma is of cedar with hints of leather. I clip a double vcut, or an X cut, as I call it, with my colibre Chancellor. I then pick up my cheap triple torch, and toast the foot, since the POS colibre doesn’t work. Instantly spice assaults my tastebuds, in a strong rush, though very pleasant it caught me offguard. This is a very full rich cigar, with a bold spicy start. ½” in I start noticing notes of cedar. The base flavor is Leather, with notes of cedar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and an occasional hint of cocoa. There is a slight deviation in the burn at the ¾” mark, but it is hardly noticeable, with all that this cigar has going on flavor wise.
About an inch in, I get a base flavor of Spiced Mead, this with some coffee overtones, quite a unique combination, and quite pleasant. I am really enjoying the interplay between the spicy notes, as the fade in and out, and suddenly build in intensity, then fade as they allow another take the forefront.
This cigar is extremely complex, and the flavors a so varied, some I have trouble identifying, as they are only fleeting glimpses into the depths of this cigars complexity. At the midway point, the firm white ash is still holding on exhibiting the fine construction of the cigar. The slight deviation in burn mentioned earlier self-corrected some time ago, and has not reappeared.
This cigar is really starting to show some strength, and I have a nice buzz. Ahh I noticed a little Anise, that has been fading in and out, and I just now figured out what it was that was trying to come through between the other flavors.
Wow, I just can’t get over the complexity of this stick. I am sorry that this is my only one of these. The finish on this smoke is amazing.
The ash finally dropped, while I was removing the band, just before the band started burning.
An hour has passed, since I nubbed this cigar while burning the crap out of my fingers, and the flavors are still with me. This has got to be in my top 10 cigars of all time. I have smoked several, but none have quite been as good as this particular stick. I give this smoke, a 4.5 on a 5 point scale. An excellent smoke, that I will hoard, if given the chance.
