"Don Carlos, the Godfather of tasty cigars"

Review Notes: We get so few opportunities to really experience greatness...and after buying a box of these, I can look forward to many evenings on the patio enjoying this bad ass stick. More flavorful and complex than a Hemingway (which I love, too)...this is a GREAT special occasion cigar. Not $20+ like the Padron 26s or the high end Davidoffs...but for $10, I get 1 1/2 hours of ectasy. Beautiful...

"VERY GOOD...BUT TEN BUCKS ??? ... C'MON !!!"

Review Notes: This is a great cigar. Excellent roll ... delicious to the nub. Toasty, nutty, smooth as a newborn's bottom. BUT ... it is the typical Fuente. Take a very nice Cameroon wrapped cigar, that most companies would sell for $3 or $5, maybe try to get $5.50 for them tops ... put a Fuente wrapper on it, put it in a Fuente box, and sell them for $10 - $12. I will say this, at a comparable price, it beats the Cohiba Red Dot hands down. However, I would much rather plunk down $8 for an Ashton Aged Maduro (which I just reviewed.) Don Carlos is basically a special occasion smoke, or a "rich man's cigar," if you will. If you bring in 75 to 100 grand salary a year, then by all means, buy a box. For most of us "po folk," however, may I suggest a nice Cameroon wrapped Dominican JR Alternative. How does that song go from "Fiddler On The Roof?" ... oh yeah ... "If I were a rich man ..."

"Good cigar..but not one of the best"

Review Notes: This cigar was very good...just not great. I guess I was expecting more. The cigar had a slightly restrictive draw, nice full smoke, good burn and ash. The flavor and strength were not as strong as I like, but again a solid cigar.

"Quality Smoke"

Review Notes: I announce first that I would be considered a novice smoker amongst the regulars that post opinions here. I'm still learning through experience what I like and don't like. I went to my local smoke shop looking for the Don Carlos #4 (based on ratings from this website), but there were none so I ended up with the Double Robusto. Smoked it that same night when out with friends. I must say I really enjoyed the flavor, burn quality and easy draw of this stick. While playing pool, I sometimes forgot about my smoke laying in the ashtray. Every time I went back to it, it was still lit with a fine ash log. That's a first for me and I was impressed. I smoked this baby down to the nub. I think I paid too much (10.50) but I'm happy I tried one.

"Just Mild"

Review Notes: This is just a higher priced Fuente 858. There is nothing particularly special about this cigar. Smoke smells nice, draw is great, construction is good, but it tastes like every other good Fuente. I guess I'm getting sick of the Fuente taste. It is mild, consistent, but not very interesting. I smoked some no name cigar last night that was much better than this. Try a Gispert robusto or the regular Fuente 858. A definite let down. Sorry, but not worth the $9.00 I paid. There are much better tasting cigars for less.
