"Truly, a wonder"

Review Notes: Amazing that something half a foot long can provide an experience as close to heaven as life on earth can get. Lit it up after a nice shrimp and lobster dinner and was the perfect cap to a great meal. Floral aroma, flavor profile of caramel, espresso and cocoa--the gold standard for Cameroon smokes. Truly, an unbelievable experience. Pricey, but well worth the price. The Presidente is my regular smoke for this line but this size is a nice change. If you can find a box for under $225, grab it--I know it'll be tough to spend that much, but once you light the first one, you'll be glad you did

Review Notes: Dead even with the opus X no 2. Every bit as complex and powerful. The burn was perfect draw was easy and smoke was thick. One of the best.

"Not impressive"

Review Notes: A well constructed, good looking stick. Very hard starting with tight draw until about 1/2 way down, then opened up and drew well. Unimpressive taste. Way overpriced.

"Expected much more"

Review Notes: No. 4 in Cigar Aficionado's top 25 cigars of 2004. It's a beautifully shaped cigar with a toothy and slightly oily wrapper with good color. While the draw is slightly firm it burns evenly and consistently; the ash is solid but the smoke produced is a little thin and wispy. The first half-inch is pretty bland; this cigar is supposed to be a slow starter so this wasn't a surprise. However, it doesn't improve much as only a dry wood flavor appears to accompany the sweetness from the wrapper. There are vague hints of nuts and other spices but they never fully surface. A disappointing smoke, especially given the price and the name. This cigar was undoubtably better in the past, but the recent poor reviews suggest that the current blend may be off, or the Fuente people have been neglecting this line while pursuing their other projects.

"Dud"

Review Notes: I am decidedly underwhelmed by the Don Carlos line, and this was no exception. Attractive torpedo shape with a milk chocolate wrapper with a medium-sized vein running up the side. Solid construction without soft spots. Almost nonexistent prelight aroma. Easy light. Even burn without the need for relights or corrections. Smooth draw. Solid cylinder of white ash. Tons of billowy smoke. I usually would course through the flavor profile in thirds at this point, but instead I can sum it up by saying this is a one-dimensional cigar with a predominantly woody taste (sweetish cedar, of sorts) and paper. It never opened up and it never developed any more complexity. The construction was definitely the highpoint, and there is something to be said for that, but for the $$, it was very disappointing. Wouldn't buy more.
