Review Notes:
This was a nice looking cigar and very well made, but it was really pretty dull with regard to flavor. I tried it because I had heard it has a "rich, creamy flavor," and I have been looking for something like that ever since I tried an H. Upmann (Cuban) #4, which is probably my favorite cigar ever. Anyway, this Ashton did have some creamy notes to it, but it was like drinking watered-down skim milk compared to the heavy cream flavor of the Upmann. To the credit of the Ashton, there was some complexity to it. The flavor started out with tea and light cream, then took on some strange fingernail polish notes. Those didn't last long, however. The main body of the cigar retained the tea flavors, but developed some hints of alfalfa, mint, paper and balsa wood. Overall, a great smoke if you like things really, (and I mean really) mild, or are looking for something to give a friend who doesn’t smoke cigars very often, but not something I’ll fire up again unless I’m looking to put my taste buds to sleep. (PS - My numerical ratings are based on how well I think it preformed as a mild cigar, not on my personal preference for it. If that were the case, the scores would be much lower).
