"Good cigars"

Review Notes: These are very good cigars, but I find they lack the consistency in construction that great cigars should have. I am on my second full box of the 7x49s and find the flavor amazing—full, spicy, clean, tobacco-y, just the way a cigar should be. Even the ones that need additional attention with the lighter do not get over-heated or begin to go sour. This is, however, something that should not be necessary of any cigar, especially one around $9.00 - $10.00 a stick. The first box I bought had only a few construction duds (still too many). The second box has been a completely different story. I felt a few of the cigars before the purchase, and against all former experience and knowledge I should have not bought them. A few of them felt funny—lumpy and had loose construction. Either way I bought them. They taste every bit as good as they should, but the constant touch-ups with the lighter are very aggravating and take away from the whole relaxing thing (which is one of the reasons we all smoke!). I am a huge Padron 64 fan. Taste-wise, both are equal (different, but equal as far as taste rating would go). The VSGs are a bit fuller body and a spicier, which make them an oh-so-sweet combo with the Padrons, but they come nowhere close the construction and consistency of Padron. After 7-8 boxes of Padrons I have had less aggravation than with the 2 boxes of VSGs. Either way—smoke the VSGs as much as you can, but beware of the construction. The value rating is despite construction/consistency issues because they are great tasting cigars.

Review Notes: Having burned everything from the PSD4 and BBF to the Opus X and Padron 1964, it is very difficult for me to believe that anyone would ever rate this stick below an 8.5 to 9. The cigar is an all-around gem: great aroma and press construction, flawless burn and combustion, easy draw, medium to full power with a lighter body, and a flavor that always makes me question "How is this a Dominican cigar?" It smacks of coffee and cocoa, with a very floral quality to the smoke. The wrapper is the sweetest tasting sun-grown I have ever had. Most importantly, I have yet to have ever opened a new box, pulled one out and fired up, and felt that it needed downtime in the humi. Very few sticks that you can say that about. Ashton has done a great job commissioning Fuente as the creator. Awesome job, Carlito!!!

Review Notes: Sure it's a good cigar, but not all that it's hyped to be. Very well made, but it really lacked depth and complexity, in my opinion. It was medium bodied, a bt eppery, and nutty.

"Ideal weekend smoke"

Review Notes: The second biggest cigar in the VSG line, only slightly shorter and slimmer than the Spellbound; it's stilll an imposing smoke with its characteristic rugged, streaky, and oily wrapper. The draw is easy and full putting out thick clouds of smoke with a heavy aroma. The burn may not be razor-straight, but it's consistent and doesn't need correcting until late in the smoke. It's very flavorful with lots of leather and spice, and a black coffee flavor that leads onto the finish. Medium to full in body, balanced and quite smooth; aging improves any cigar, but the additonal humidor time really does wonders on this smoke. Prices vary greatly on this line, so if you can find at around $10, I consider that good value for this long (90 minutes at least) and top-notch smoke.
