"CLO OTC00: not up to par"

Review Notes: I have had this box for quite some time hoping that aging could improve the flavors. All of them from this box are the same. Appearance is fine even though the color of the wrapper is lighter than I would like. They have some small veins. Construction is fine, they draw well and the ash is tight. HOWEVER,  they are mild, somewhat grassy and, at times, a little harsh. When tobacco is not that great to begin with, there is no aging that can improve it!

Review Notes: I had high hopes for this cigar, seeing that it's the highest ranking Cuban on Puff. First time I had it, I thought it was a little dry, which seemed like an aging problem. I gave it a second chance, this time from a box of nicely aged ones. It was the same! Little transition, even in the last third. Admittedly it is a nice smoke (nice construction, although I prefer darker wraps), but surely it is undeserving of the top spot here.

Review Notes: I found a couple that I had purchased as singles back in 2007 and hidden from myself to sleep in the bottom of one of my storage humis. Lit one up tonight and... I think I may have just smoked the best cigar I've ever had. Right off the bat, intense layers of coffee and chocolate, balanced perfectly by that distinctive Cuban twang and spice. Not that Nic spice that just burns without much in the way of flavor, but the Cuban spice that you can roll through the nose without regretting it, no matter how intense. The burn problems I had noted back in '07 were tamed now, as was the intensity and strength, leaving it more a strong medium than full, and only requiring a couple of minor touch-ups. Throughout the length, the flavors developed depth and complexity, finally reaching a spicy, leathery finale over a base of sweet coffee and chocolate, with hints of honey and nuttiness. Nubbed it with only 3/4" left after 50 mins of pure bliss. This is the reason I smoke cigars!

"Wish I had more from '06"

Review Notes: The title says it all. My favorite box is from early '06. Woody, milder versions of the Boli PC or others. Smooth, earthy, creamy... No wonder they were Cigar of the year!
