"A Cool Texan...."

Review Notes: A pretty box-pressed cigar that had a sweet aroma before being lit. Burned a grayish ash and burned cool, but I did have to relight the stick an additional two times due to uneveness. Medium-bodied, slightly chewy at the cap with a creamy, woody, and slightly nutty taste. Enjoyed it and a good smoke for $5.50.

Review Notes: This oscuro colored cigar was long and lean with a rectangular cuadrado press. The dark maduro wrapper had medium sized veins and a splotchy appearance with patches of inky blackness against the ebony leaf. The cap was small and looked like it was flopped over the head, and the sides of the cigar were solid but with a slight springy give. There was a nice Nicaraguan spiciness and dry earth to the pre draw, and something more exotic in the background. The squared press made for an interesting mouth feel. A good firm draw delivered medium amounts of smoke, and the flavor included strong notes of cedar, some wet leather, and a slight metallic tinge. The finish was vaguely medicinal and sharp on the back of the tongue. The ash was medium gray in color and firm and dense. A slightly uneven burn was noted but not distracting. At the one third mark a shot of ginger flavor burst through the central american spice, and I was treated to a great peppery aroma from the cigar that enlivened the room. I had the impression that the stick might still be a bit young as there was a bit of green left in the taste, but it was still a lovely blend. The cigar built in strength as it went but never progressed past medium full. I found strong hints of anise in the second half and the finish developed and matured into a more pleasant one with notes of burt orange peel and bay leaves coming through. I liked this cigar. The flavor reminded me of a Nicaraguan blend with some more exotic ingredients - perhaps Ecuadorian or Sumatran - adding a nice harmony. The construction was good and the finish really came on in the last half to leave a very nice lingering memory. Recommended.
