Review Notes:
Yesterday was this first get together of the Triple Cap Cigar Club. We’re starting from humble origins, we have about 7 members, a balcony, a porch, and whatever golf course we find ourselves on. Within the next 6-8 months, I am hoping to transform my 150 square foot balcony into a full-fledged cigar haven with a couple of lounge chairs, couches, area rugs, and a record player. Living in Hawaii, a smoke free zone, us cigar smokers have been banned from all restaurants, and unlike cities like Miami or New York, there are no cigar or restaurant bars where we can lay our hats and kick back after a hard week. Some of my fondest memories have been sharing a cigar with my Dad in places like the Macanudo Cigar bar in Manhattan and the Cigar room at the Marriott in Bangkok. Aside from having superb drinks and food, the ambiance, sophistication, and classic feel leave me wanting and wishing a place like this existed in Down Town Honolulu. For the time being, we’ll have to make due with my porch and lawn furniture but at least the drinks are cheap.
For cigars last night, Keoki had a special edition Graycliff cigar named Junkanoo, Matt smoked a Graycliff Red Label torpedo, and I went with my new favorite, the Cohiba Siglo VI. I tried a few drags of each of the smokes at different times through out the cigar.
The Junkanoo had subtle floral and tobacco flavors at the beginning, about mid way it picked up strength and a hint of spice, towards the finish there was a bit of a diesel aftertaste that hurt the score. 88 points.
The Red label was nicely constructed. It had a nice medium body with a good mix of spice and tobacco flavor. I think this would be a great afternoon smoke after a round of golf with a couple of beers. 88 points
The Siglo VI is perfection. I have 23 of these left from my box, and I think that’s just about enough. When I start getting down to about 10 left, I’ll be ready to buy another one. I never want to be with out this smoke in my humidor. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t get much better than this an instant classic. 96 Points.
