"Still Bitter after 18 Years"

Review Notes: I read the last two reviews with great interest. Both hit on accurate descriptions of this cigar, but "Boston Bill" was the most accurate, there is bitterness. I've keep buying these Cusano 18's hoping I'd get that mild-sweet cigar that would go with that adult beverage, but I keep getting disappointed.

"Not a lot to be exicited about...."

Review Notes: The Cusano 18 Toro looks like a nice mild stick. It has a fairly smooth Connecticut wrapper that seems to indicate a milder, perhaps sweet smoke. I've had these for a year in the humidor and I will admit that the two or three times I smoked one I just couldn't remember anything to speak of. That may be somewhat negative...But, I thought with the aging it was a good time to seriously try this stick again. Pre-light I examined the stick and found it to be one of the more flawless looking wrappers and at the price I was impressed. The smell was not at all a fermented "barnyard" type, but kind of sweet in a way I couldn't match with anything I have been smoking recently. The cigar was an in-between density when I squeezed it and even though it was on the slimmer gauge size it felt as if it might burn medium to slow. It lit right up upon torching and I was off. The first thing I noticed was nicotine sting with recessed woodiness. It was not bad, just not the mildness and nuttiness I was expecting. The sweetness was there too, but again not as pronounced as I may have thought it would be. As I progressed it did not change much flavorwise and the medium gray ash fell in my lap prior to expected. In it's favor it burned even if a bit faster perhaps due to it being a little smaller in diameter. My impresssion was that it was stronger in nicotine but a lackluster flavor profile. I never experienced any bitterness or off flavor...Just not enough interesting flavor outside of the rather one dimensional sting it imparted. This isn't a bad stick, but to use a word I've already penned: lackluster. There is a time in all things, wine and liquor comes to mind, when aging stops serving the final taste and, perhaps, this is a case in point. I simply can't recommend this stick, but again will state it isn't a bad smoke.

"This is *NOT*a Mild Cigar"

Review Notes: Despite the brilliant and effective marketing campaign, these cigars are NOT mild. Yes, they are Connecticut, and look sweet, and have a pleasant aroma, but when I light them up, all I taste is harsh harsh harsh. True, they aren't as powerful as some others, but since they're marketed, merchandised, sold, and reviewed by nearly everyone as being mild, you might expect this to be a soft, Baccarat/Ashton/Macanudo style cigar. They're NOT. Usually "strength" is used in reference to relative nicotine content, as evidenced by how the Cigar makes you feel while smoking it. Is it soft on the palate, or does it hit you in the guy? These are powerful, med-full strength cigars. Don't be fooled. I haven't been able finish even ONE of these cigars... Yuck!

Review Notes: Well made and nice appearance, even burn, nice draw and smoke volume. Mild to medium flavor with some nice leathery under tones and some muted pepper flavor in the middle.
