"El Rico Habano Gran Corona - natural"

Review Notes: The El Rico Habano Gran Corona is a great value for a cigar around 3 bucks. Full bodied with a rich tobacco flavor and occasional blasts of pepper. Better than most $5-7 cigars.

"Dramatically underrated, IMO"

Review Notes: No, it isn't a sexy new release with glow in the dark packaging, but the Gran Corona is straight up phenomenal. A little veiny and rough looking, but practically shimmering with oils. Slightly dry throughout, but otherwise fantastic. Strong, with maple and other unidentifiable hardwoods, building in spicy complexity as smoked. I subjected this one to the ultimate construction torture test -- smoked it with the top down at interstate speed. I expected it to disintegrate, but the burn remained razor straight. Can't wait to smoke another under tamer conditions.

"Hammer Time"

Review Notes: There is no subtlety to this cigar -- it's a full bodied spice bomb comparable perhaps to Joya de Nicaragua Antano in strength and flavor. Not my cuppa joe -- I'll stick with the maduros in this line which have a little more complexity. Same great construction though, and a decent price tag.

"El Rico Habano Gran Corona - Powerful +"

Review Notes: Purchased the Gran Corona in Nov 2006. The cigar has a nice firm bunching with a fairly dark slightly oily wrapper. The pre-light aroma is very nice with a slight spiciness to it. The draw and smoke volume are very good. Even the pre-light draw provides a huge dose of pepper! Initial light up immediately lets you know that you better go get something cold to drink to cool yourself off while smoking this stick. Extremely spicy\peppery with a high octane kick. This cigar is in my opinion slightly unbalanced in that there is too much strength overpowering the flavor. Its pretty much pure power and pepper. The finish is long and peppery and your tongue will tingle for some time after smoking this cigar. There are occassional hints of cedar and wood but this smoke is overbearingly full of pepper. It's like smoking a habanero. The burn was pretty even and the ash was a slightly dark to medium grey and firm. The cigar is well made and definitely a full bodied, full strength smoke. The aroma is strong, spicy and stingy. This cigar could easily make you break out in a sweat and would go excellently with a cold beer. Overall this is a well made cigar at a nice price. Its not for eveyone as it is probably one of the strongest smokes on the market. Not an everyday cigar, but great for occassions when you want something with a peppery kick. I prefer some of the Don Pepin cigars in terms of flavor, but these ERH are a steal in comparison.

"Great!"

Review Notes: Time to give this cigar an update, given that the last review here was in '04. They're smoking perfectly, with an easy draw and razor sharp burn. Construction's solid, and the flavor remains classic ERH; full, tangy and delish. Has all the strength you could possibly want, and with a few months of down time, it's smooth going. Love these cigars.
