"Hoyo's strongest"

Review Notes: Personally I dont understand some of these lower ratings for this cigar. Upon smoking it I found out right away this puppy is strong, and I think that may have turned some people off who are used to HDM's because they tend to be medium bodied. Basically, this cigar tates like an HDM on steroids. The Excalibur taste is certainly there, you know the usual Honduran pepper and salt, but there is some "exotic" type filler (Ometepe, wherever that is) that I think really amps up the strength. It almost tastes a little like a Mexican cigar. Personally, I loved this cigar; it is probably the strongest cigar ever to come out of HDM and I always thought the Excalibur's were missing some of that punch. I didnt note any burn problems with the one I smoked. All in all this is a quality smoke but be prepared because it's alot stronger than what you might be used to with regular Excaliburs.

"Not worth the money"

Review Notes: Worst HdM I've every had. Tried the Conqueror and the Crusader and both had serious burn/draw problems and would not stay lit. Fought with the Congueror for 20 minutes before I gave up. From the first light, it just didn't draw good or produce a lot of smoke. Flavor might have been okay but I couldn't tell.

"Lean and Spicy"

Review Notes: I found the first third to be very peppery and then mellowing out with that typical Hoyo/Excalibur earthiness, but the pepper stayed throughout the cigar. The construction was very good and the white/grey ash was typical of the Excalibur line as was its "ashy looseness". I wonder what General's marketing strategy is with this one in putting it in the Excalibur line. This seemed to be a perfect escalationion in taste profile to the regular Hoyo and Hoyo dark sumatra lines. I think for the price I'll stick with the regular Hoyo and Excalibur 1066 lines. I'd recommend this if it were more in those price lines. But if peppery spice is in your wheelhouse, then this is your cigar.

"A little disappointed..."

Review Notes: The cigar starts with the strongest spice I've ever experienced in a cigar. Wow, it is spicy when lighting up! I was afraid the rest of the cigar would be that spicy, but luckily it wasn't. This cigar goes out very easily, you can't put it down for long or you'll be relighting. The cigar had a wavy burn and the ash fell apart very easily. The taste, unfortunately, tasted a little bland and, I swear, at times I tasted soap in my mouth. Bizarre I know. I smoked this cigar while cleaning the garage and it made me a little sick to my stomach. I would recommend sitting while smoking. All in all I would like to try a smaller size, but for $7-8 a piece this cigar can't compete with my current favorites. Sorry Hoyo...
