"Burly smoke"

Review Notes: Maybe I shouldn't review...I'm new, so take with grain of salt. Smoked on a Friday night on empty stomach with cup of coffee. Way, way, way to strong for a newbie. I like strong taste...which this had, but not harsh after first 10-12 draws. Lots of flavor. Lots and lots of nicotine...dizzy for 2 hours. Got from JR six and six deal with Punch double corona. Punch a better smoke for my experience level. Such a sally lightweight! Alas.

"Powerful and spicy"

Review by: ElkTwin
Review Date: 08/15/2004
Rating: 8.33

Overall Experience

Review Notes: Very dark rich wrapper, lightly veined, slightly oily, and artfully applied. Clearly expertly constructed and solidly rolled. The cigar had a slight curve, but the sides were even and tight and graced with a minor box press. Pre light aroma was stout and the cap tasted rich and was tingly on the tongue signaling a powerhouse waiting to be unleashed. Clipped to the shoulder, the pre-light draw was smooth and redolent of earth and conifer. The plain band slipped off easily indicating that the cigar was properly aged and stored. A dry initial burst gave way to strong notes of tobacco flashing powerful ligero overtones accompanied by a background of spice reminiscent of cardamom. The draw was medium firm with slow smoke production, and the first few times it took four of five good puffs to develop a satisfactory plume of smoke. The ash spread and split a bit at the foot and was a little flaky at first, but had a solid core. Light grey in color, it tapped off cleanly. The finish was a bit dry and wooden, but not distractingly so. A ragged burn with several minor runners was somewhat worrisome but never required attention other than a careful rotation of the cigar. Loud and brash describes the aroma of the smoke and its strong presence announced itself to the room. A simple glass of ice water on the side soothed the palate as the strong cigar muscled its way along. Midway through the smoke began to really flow and large mouthfuls of smoke came through with each satisfying puff. Overall this was a very good cigar despite its overwhelming strength. Just beneath the surface the flavors mingled and delivered an interesting and complex type of satisfaction. Definitely not for the feint of heart, this cigar would best be enjoyed late in the day but might overpower all but the spiciest of foods. Recommended for those that enjoy a strong smoke.
