"Beauty But Bit Bitter"

Review Notes: The Gurkha Centurian, is a handsome cigar which burned well for me. I took advantage of the early spring heatwave and took one black dog down the river camping. Around the Campfire I savored this beautiful and well-built stick. However from early on a slight bitterness crept in. Nothing horrible just annoying as there was flavor underneath. Maybe it was a matter of not enough age or maybe I just got a bad one. Despite the strengths, the bitterness will probably keep me from buying more.

Review Notes: I love the look and feel of a perfecto. They are just plain fun to light and smoke. The flavor of this medium body cigar are ok, with a hint of spice early on, then plain tobacco. The stick got very soft during the last third, so I put it down with 2" left.

Review Notes: Lots of great features, but the flavor turned too bitter for me to really love it.

Review Notes: Crisp, clean scent. Ugly perfecto shape, just dying to be lit. Handsome deep brown wrapper with a few minor sun spots. No flavor on preligt draw. Feels tight. smoked with deep, dark flavors. Very spicy and woody. Obvious quality blend. Burn slightly uneven but self correcting. 1/2 point, smoke is too hot to appreciate flavor. After 5 minute rest cigar is still lit and flavors have mellowed. Rich hearty flavor.

Review Notes: Gurkhas seem polarizing to me as some like them quite a bit and more seem to dismiss them. That said I was curious as to their perfecto/preferido shaped stick...The Centurian. I've enjoyed the Masters Select Gurkhas and this one seems like it follows suit. An enjoyable if mild smoke. The cigar looked great as it has a medium brown (natural?) wrapper that had a matte finish which showed no imperfections from tip to stern. It required a clip in order to get it started and it pulled nicely even though the end was tapered to quite a point that was small blunt and open. This cigar started slowly with not alot of flavor, but opened up soon as the burn approached a wider part of the roll. From that point on it was creamy sweet woodiness. Not a lot of complexity as it was not spicy or nutty, but it did have a nice taste if on the milder side. It burned medium to slow and even providing much the same flavor the entire time. I paired it with a slightly sweet wheat beer and felt it went well with that combination. All in all I liked it as it was very well rounded with absolutiely no edges. If it's competition is the Aurora Preferido I'd say it delivered a value as that cigar goes from $20 or so a stick.
