"Gurkha, you odd thing"

Review Notes: Well of course I, as many, can get swept away in fads. There is no doubt that much of what Gurkha does and makes is faddish. Don't get me wrong, Gurkha makes some good cigars, but it is a brand that lives more on internet lore sometimes, than solid performance. I found the Masters Select a flimsy effort, at best. Gurkha is not known for its delicious flavor profile, and this cigar did not change this reputation for me. I found the draw good, the construction adequate, but it lacked complexity and did little for my curiosity. I believe this is the classic cigar that profits from "that site's", well, should we say, sometimes over the top reviews of fairly average cigars. A great cite for us consumers, just take the "reviews" with a large salt slab. This was an OK cigar but I think there are many other, lesser known brands (on "that" site), that deserve more accolades. Don't get swept in to the Gurkha lore, as you will find out this is by no means, "the rolls royce of cigars." Think more a nice steady Honda Accord...the ones made in Mexico that is.

"Too legit to quit... sorry for that"

Review Notes: yummy. I have a box of these because I loved the first 5 I tried. I've found that keeping them closer to 70 RH is best. Construction is pretty good although I had a couple plugged ones, but hey, better than having underpacked cigars tunnel and sour on you. Exceptional taste. Nothing particular, but the flavor mixes very well for a really tasty experience. One of, if not, my favorite gurkha.

"Good Taste, Everything Else Average"

Review Notes: I really enjoyed the taste of the Gurkha Master Select Toro Grande. Creamy with hints of leather, cedar and plenty of salt. However, this cigar was average or below in burn and appearance. Given the price you pay for one of these it should not look like a Puros Indos.

"Smooth and tasty"

Review Notes: Most of my samples aged for 3-12 months, with little change in flavor or consistency. Some were slightly grassy at light but all immediately settled into a smooth toastiness with bits of cream and occasional spice or leathery tones. Always mild to medium and of course slightly stronger when young...but never harsh in any way. Another solid Gurkha cigar.

"Good straightforward smoke"

Review Notes: I'm finishing up the 4th of a fiver here. Every one burned a little off, but corrected (one corrected itself) tended to go out. But, that can be allright if you set em down here and there (I do) Flavor hit hard of cedar right away (the cedar wrap maybe?) then mellowed to a tangy woodsy tobacco - through to the end. Not the flavor I seek out. But, an excellent smoke nonetheless. Finish sticks with you, and is pleasant. Strength seems to come across once you've set it down, and hangs out -cubanesque? Nice change of pace for me.
