"If Humidors were Time Machines ...."

Review Notes: After about 15 months in the humidor, I smoked the last of a five-pack. In my previous review I described how the other three (one give away) had been disappointing for Gurkha's. Well finally success! This time the construction was at least average, probably a bit above. The flavor was a toasty, saltiness that I smoked to the nub. Why did it take so long! It had been about 5 months since I smoked the last which was unremarkable. So I guess if you have the patience and 15 months you might get lucky. To me it's just not worth it. But, I have to say I really enjoyed that last one!

" Better taste - Psychotic construction"

Review Notes: This cigar has changed. After an additional two months in the humi (this makes about 6 total) the smoke has first gotten more complex and a bit fuller bodied, not much but certainly enough to mention. Scotty described the taste of the Toro as “creamy wood and earth” which hits the nail pretty much on the head for this Robusto. However, with the additional body came a nice mixture of spice. What impressed me most was the burn, which was razor sharp and the ash. Folks, this was with out a doubt, the tightest ash I’ve seen in a long time plus this stick never required attention of any kind. My last review had the ash described as the “second ugliest ash….” Quite a turn around. Now the bad: within a ½ inch of being lit the wrapper split. So the dilemma is: how do you score a cigar with a very good burn and ash vs. the same cigar that generally started to fall apart? I guess you just have to say; “it’s a Gurkha.”

"Just when I thought..."

Review Notes: Just when I thought Gurkhas just aren't for me, I tried a vintage. Of the 5 or so others I've had they just didn't do it for me. I hope the Nepalese Warriors and Genghis Khan's I have napping will be a pleasant surprise also. Yeah for mild fans, I think this one's a winner. Incredibly creamy and aromatic. Just delicious, I wanted another one as soon as I nubbed it.

"It's a Gurkha so bring your tape..."

Review Notes: I was not overly impressed with the Vintage Toro so...being a gluten for punishment I gave the Robusto a whirl with some similar results. This cigar had a nice, smooth, mildly spicy flavor. The cigar on the whole was very mild…in fact, probably to mild for my taste. LOTS of creamy smooth smoke which seems to be characteristic of Gurkhas. Also characteristic of Gurkhas, the construction was poor, burn uneven and it had the second ugliest ash I’ve seen this year. Prior to cutting and lighting, this stick looked great but once cut/lit, it started to unravel. I had to give the cigar to much attention….a REAL negative in my book. I have a couple more in the humi and will leave them there for a while. A recent experience with the Gurkha CXX makes me believe this batch just needs a ton more time. I think this stick is better than my rating but time will tell.

"Fragile"

Review Notes: I have to knock this one off a bit from my previous review. The flavors are still great, but the fragile wrapper makes this one a challenge to store and smoke. You can have a perfect cigar, but it will fall apeart if you don't cut it just right. If you are up for the challenge though, this is still a fine smoke at a nice price.
