Review Notes: Another cigar from the plethora of smokes produced by K. Hansotia. Like Rocky he produces way too many brands that range from poor to great. Thank goodness this is a good one. I decided to try this one first thing in the morning after reading they were mild-medium. It is a wonderful way to start my birthday weekend. The DM is a clean maduro not too complex but very flavorful puff after puff. Flavors of coffee, wood and of course well aged tobacco on the light bodied smoke make this a good choice for morning and lunchtime. The burn is pretty good, the draw easy in this firm but lightly packed stogie. I recommend you try one.

"Marudo big boy"

Review Notes: I tend to point out how much I like marudo cigars, and the same is true in this case. The Gurka is every bit as good a Fonseca and Feunte marudos, but the price tag is a little higher for the Gurkha. Overall, this thing smoked almost perfectly with a nice flavor and decent aroma. As always, near perfect construction. Nice cigar, but try the Fonceca Cedar Marudos!

"Maddie goodness!"

Review Notes: This is a wonderful maduro cigar. It's got a bouble toothy oily wrapper that's great. The draw is excellent and the burn was perfect. Sweet earth with chocolate flavors abound in this beauty. It's also very smooth and mild to med in strenght but very flavorful. Highly recommened in my book.

"Still going strong"

Review Notes: I've let my DM's rest for a while since my last review and they just seem to get better. I've been trying some other brands periodically going back and smoking a DM to compare to and I still have to say the DM can't be beat. My only complaint might be that occassionally I find one with draw problems, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little massaging. As for the taste they all have been great. I love the cocoa nutty flavor. The DM is a very durable cigar, many cigars will fall apart during your adjustments but the DM hangs tough and always pleases. If you like the DM's I strongly suggest you try the RP vintage lines 90 and 92 as well as the Euro. Different in taste but similar in quality and strength.

"The ups and downs of Gurkha"

Review Notes: Looked and smoked like a champ but this stick lacked the sweet maduro richness that composed the flavor profile of my first Gurkha Doble Maduro. I found this second cigar to be ordinary at best in it's flavor. The cigar came out of the exact same package as the first. This brings me to the point of my review. I find that Gurkha with their limited or seasonal productions like the Doble Maduro, the Boer, and the Ltd. Exp. Series are a bit inconsistent. I've smoked 2 or 3 cigars in each of the aforementioned lines and one will be excellent the other ordinary. Is this the price that we pay as consumers for the niche that Gurkha is carving out in the cigar industry with their limited production of boutique cigars? I'd suspect that in using small select batches of "special" tobacco Gurkha has limited its ability to establish consistent blending of its cigars within the same lines. If you continually keep making different cigars from different batches how can you be consistent within those batch lines? However, in closing, I must praise Gurkha for endeavoring to be different. When Gurkha is good it is excellent. When bad they are still better than most. Just be prepared to experience those ups and downs. (the $3 I paid for the "ordinary" Doble Maduro was still a good value)
