Review Notes: A Hoyo de Monterrey Rothschild Maduro was my choice for tonight and after letting it soak in the humidor for 5 months, it was time to enjoy. There are some who feel an extended humidor experience helps with the flavor, and others who believe cigars made with properly aged “tercios” (cigar leaf bales) are perfect right out of the box. The answer?? Experiment and find out for yourself! My maduro had a very mild tobacco scent and the cold smoke was also the same. The wrapper had the characteristically thick leaf maduro veins, but was well constructed. After the light, the body was very mild as a coffee flavor appeared. There was some sweetness and hints of fruit but nothing extraordinary. After a few more puffs the maduro kicked in and the sweetness came through with a slight background of creaminess. The coffee or mild chocolate continued through into the next stage (2nd third) and the sweetness picked up. The experience was like drinking a Starbucks with 2 sugars and 1 cream! The body was still mild and I was pleased with the consistent burn and thick ash of the cigar. It was mostly a one dimensional cigar at this point, and I was hoping for more. Finally at the band, some complexity picked up and the Starbucks was left in the background. The body was fuller and some cedar arrived which evolved into a more earthy taste at the end. The finish was average and I found it to be a little dry. If you enjoy bolder cigars, this ain’t it! However, for those who enjoy a milder maduro or those migrating to the “darker” side, for the price of around $3, this is an excellent choice.

"Great complexity in a mild/med stick"

Review Notes: Lit perfectly, but developed uneveness after the first inch. Required two touch-ups, but didn't affect the overall taste. Very smooth draw, produced a lot of smoke when I pulled on it, no smoke while it rested. Prelight draw was chocolate & Levi Garrett (yes, the chewing tobacco.) A pleasant creaminess pervaded the entire smoke. The first third was chocolate and fruity, mostly raisin. The second third gave way to a meaty flavor like chargrilled steak, which was very satisfying with an evident cherry note. This came on strong in the final act, complementing some smoky wood. I loved the complexity. The finish was short, and there is almost no after taste an hour later. Body: Mild/Medium, virtually no nic buzz.

Review Notes: I have been looking for a cigar that compliments a cup of coffee and this is it. Nice taste with hints of chocolate slightly sweet and coffee flavors. I am definitely getting a box

"Very nice maduro"

Review Notes: as noted by many others, prelight aroma and appearance are what i seek in a maduro. the roll is tight enough to the touch, but i experience none of the draw issues mentioned by others. mine burns perfectly, and remains lit during two interruptions without problem. the smoke is full and plenty. i'll leave it to others to denote the fruit and other flavors, but the flavor is rich and progresses the way i hope a maduro will; this one starts on the mild side of medium and the flavors become more complex and gain strength until at the end it is on the fuller side of medium for me. certainly not the strongest blend, but an excellent one to my taste. i got these as a throw in for a box purchase, and left them in the coolerdor for five months in the cello before trying one. i find that laying them down for a while allows for either humidity extreme upon buying the cigars to be mitigated, leading to more consistent smokes. burned this one to the nub and enjoyed it greatly. looking forward to the other four.
