"Not worth the money"

Review Notes: I had two of these. Construction was decent, however, flavor was overly harsh. Also had an unpleasent, rank aftertaste.

"Stay away from the Dominican version"

Review Notes: I got some free JM maduros and they were smokeable. They were, I believe, Nicaraguan. I stopped at JR's on my way home from Fla and bought JM Dominicans, which I thought may be an upgrade. They suck suck suck. Standing next to a trash fire is a better smoking experience. Not worth the humi space, chucked 18 after smoking 1 and just lighting the second one.

Review Notes: I bought a box of these Jose Marti Valentinos for $80...came out to $3.50 a stick. That was back in September of 1997, of course. My taste in cigars is much different now than it was then. But since I have recorded all my cigar experiences, at the time I felt this cigar was medium-bodied with some good spice, an earthy yet complex core of flavors including roasted nuts and coffee-bean and a woody finish. I remember enjoying one of these on a Saturday Afternoon at a bar by the beach, while sipping a drink I invented called a "Lucky Luciano" (Vodka, Bailey's, Amaretto and cream...shaken over ice...if you're interested) Afterwards I started seeing the drink I thought I invented being touted as a "Nutty Irishman". Anyway...haven't had a Jose Marti or a Lucky Luciano in years.

"I'd pass on this one"

Review Notes: Even considering the price, I'd pass on this one. Flavor was only ok at best. The burn is consistently sloppy. And the wrapper tends to fall apart rather easily.

"Let's balance things up"

Review Notes: I got a box of these that had been aged for several years, 6 if memory serves. Maybe that makes the difference. These are mainly mild cigars. If you don't like mild, don't get them as you probably won't like these. These are not the best cigar I've ever had, but they are fairly well constructed and will keep you occupied for an hour and a half to two hours. I found the flavour to have enough variety over the length of the cigar, often starting of particularly nutty before moving into more heavily 'spiced' flavours, particularly towards the last few inches. I do wonder whether the 'newer' of these cigars will be anywhere near as good judging from some other reviews, but if you find some well-aged ones I'd suggest you buy them as they are well worth a go.
