Review Notes:
Summary: If you guys got $60.00 and are an experienced smoker, get a box of these from Bonita Smoke Shop. Cheapest place that I've found and their customer service is the greatest. Anyway let's get down to the nitty gritty shall we?
Packaging: Beautiful. A nice boxed presentation, and a very nice band. You can tell that Joya de Nicaragua really took the time out to package these babies. They look intimidating, and smoking these puros are nothing short from it. Nice and neat that truly reflects a true master cigar maker.
Construction: The wrapper is really nice and shiney with an oily look to it. Deep dark wrapper and a really nice roll that is even throughout the entire cigar. It's a really solid stick, not vainy and very smooth and consistent throughout.
Strength and Flavor: Extremely Powerful. This is not a smoke for a beginner, you need to train yourself up before getting into these. Some of the previous guys may have gotten an odd stick, because I've smoked three of these so far from the same box and they were all consistently strong.
The flavor however, remained the same with each one. Very strong from start to finish with the power coming on with each succeeding draw. Take your time if you're unsure of your tolerance, these babies are really really strong. The ending will truly make an end of you if you're not experienced.
The flavors were a bit confusing to me. I couldn't really decipher what my tongue was trying to tell my brain. It is definitely very peppery, lots of tar with every hit. It is also very hot, and has that trademark taste of a fine young Nicaragua tobacco.
For those of you who didn't get what I had just said, the start of this cigar is like the mid to ending point of a good AVO. And it keeps getting strong and stronger throughout the cigar with a very unique and complex taste like nothing I have had before.
For those who truly appreciate a strong, full bodied cigar, this is one that you must try. If you're a beginner, I give you fair warning that this cigar will turn you inside out. A great cigar, but I think more time in the "training box" will tame this beast a bit more and allow it settle.
Overall: This cigar is extremely well made and is a very fine smoke. I would rather smoke a La Gloria Cubana Serie R Maduro #6, which by my experience, is much stronger but is much more flavorful and finely aged. But this Gran Consul is a must have for the humidor. With a little more time in the humidor, this will be a contender.
