"Good Smoke For Newbs"

Review Notes: The Experience: Initial Impression— I smoked this cigar a little over a year ago and I remembered it being pretty ok. I wanted to try it again because A) My palate has become a bit more refined and B) because I now blog about my findings and wanted to commemorate my opinion of this cigar. Appearance—This is a nice standard Connecticut shade, mild smoke. It measures a lengthy 7” with a ring gauge of 50. I don’t usually smoke such a long cigar but it was something different and I’m pleased with the change. I’ve had this stick in my humidor for a few weeks now and for fear that it would dry out (my humidor can’t seem to break the 64% mark) I decided today was the day to enjoy it…before time and arid conditions prevented it. I cut the end and I noticed the cigar was a bit spongy, so I immediately put any fear of the smoke having dried out to rest. It was a very smooth, slightly cracked cigar. I blame the cracking, however, on my humidor. The stick it self is slightly oily but that only adds to the creaminess of the smoke later on. I found the construction of the cigar to be soft but brittle, again, humidor to blame but caused zero damage to the stick, it’s smoke-ability or it’s taste. Lighting/Burning/Ash— I lit the stick with the greatest of ease. If anything, I might say that it lit and burned too quickly. But that’s the worst thing I can say about this smoke. I found its burn rate from beginning to end to be perfect. There was the right about of smoke either when it was resting or when I was puffing on it. I did notice, however, that the ash was gray to mostly black. As I understand it, this is a sign of the quality (or lack there of) of the soil in which the tobacco grew. To that extent, however, it did not distract from the overall quality of the cigar. Consistency/Draw—The initial draw was a little bit like sucking on a paper towel roll. I found that it was a bit “airy” to puff on, but once I got through the first 1/5 (or less) of it, I no longer noticed it. Maybe it didn’t go away, I just acclimated myself to it. Either way, it did not distract from the overall quality and enjoyment of the cigar. Maintenance/Flavor— This is a nice cigar. I have to say that I know why I remember enjoying is so much last year: It’s a newbie’s delight. There’s a hint of flavor to it, but it’s vegetal in nature. It’s not so much spicy or peppery as much as it is earthy. It’s a mild cigar that I would recommend as a first or second time smoke. It didn’t burn to fast, no did it ever need to be re-lit…and that says a lot this time around. I have to admit, I may have been a bit derelict in attending to this cigar as I smoked it. Not because I wasn’t enjoying it but because I was immersed in my Las Vegas Advisor monthly newsletter. So it’ s resting smoke was perfect. Reflection & Rating Now that I’m done smoking it and sitting here writing up this review: No lingering aftertaste. This certainly speaks to its mildness. I have to admit that as I become more experienced with cigars, I really enjoy the aftertaste that a quality cigar leaves in your mouth. This just didn’t do it. The plus side: My residence does not smell like an ashtray. That said, I kinda like the aroma a good cigar leaves in the air. This poor cigar can’t win to lose with me today. There was one point in time when it became very harsh, approximately 55% of the way through. I almost stopped smoking it, but I’m glad I persevered. A quick search of’s iPhone app informs me, via other’s reviews, that this seems to be common with this particular style (the #600). Just push through and you’ll be fine. This cigar would be a great cigar to keep on hand for a newbie cigar smoker. For that reason, I would rate this smoke as an A-

"Everyday smoke"

Review Notes: I bought a box of 20. A few of the cigars have minor blemishes or imperfections. The cigars have few veins or bumps. The draw is pretty consistent throughout the smoke. Occasionally a cigar will not burn uniformly and this can be a bit distracting. The cigar starts very mild and stays that way. Has a strong cedar presence in the pre-smoke smell of the cigar and that comes through in the burning. This is an easy smoke and worth the price for an everyday smoke. It does burn a bit hot at times so smoke it slowly.

Review Notes: Started off with a bland nothingness, grew into a decent creamy flavor. But at the half way point it just got bitter and unsmokable. Saw it got rated a 90 I believe but who the hell smoked that. Maybe I got a dude but i DOUBT IT.
