Review Notes: These are only available from Holts (house brand) and I've been hesitant to try them but I finally broke down a bought a box of these and wished I would have tried them earlier, these have a mixture of power, balance and smoothness I have not tased since I last had a Cuban Monte 2, they are definately a re-purchase item for me and more. I would rate this at the top of the Don Pepin Garcia line from at least what I've tried (Cuban Classic, Tatuaje, Havana VI, Nacionales W, Don Pepin Blues, Havana Soul, Havana Leon, Hirsch y Garcia, Sancti Spiritus and leastly the C.I. Legends Series Yellow label) by a far and wide margin.

Review Notes: So here's the deal. I am not a fan of full flavor cigars because they usually get harsh as hell past the one third mark. This is definitely a full flavor cigar but this one, in the short time I could handle it, never got harsh. The flavors were fabulous. Top 5 I've ever smoked. Seriously. If you've read my other reviews you've noticed me try to pull off the flavor profiles but let's be honest, I can't pick out the flavors any better than a first time smoker. What I will say is that this was smooth, slightly sweet and just downright wonderful. The construction, as with every other Pepin cigar I've smoked, was absolutely stellar. You hold this thing and it's a sight to behold, it feels solid between your fingers. Tight roll, but even, smooth draw. It did go out once which is always frustrating but that could be a fluke. The cap (Pepin's triple caps) after I cut it held up and was like a little bowl on the table. I can't say enough about this guy. He's a true master and holds his product to the highest standards and specifications. It was a dark stick that felt smooth an leathery. You seriously need to try something Pepin. I tried the Troya he rolls and though I didn't like the flavor profile it was just a fun cigar to smoke. His are the only one's I've ever even said that about. I usually focus on flavor and throw the rest to the birds. So whey the 2? This cigar flat out kicked my ass. I got dizzy half way through and had to put it down. I even kept trying cause it tasted so good and I wanted to go down to the nub but I might have died. You have to be a man to handle this one and this one put me in my place. I haven't felt like that since my high school graduation when I puked off of a Macanudo. If you're into a smooth smoke and can handle the punch, give it a try. In fact, it's a must. I would buy a box buy I think It's a stick I'm going to have to work my way toward. It could be that I smoke it too fast because I liked it too much. Who knows. I think I'm going to hold off on the next one for a bit though.

"Old Reliable"

Review Notes: This is a Holt's blend, done by Pepin Garcia and produced in Nicaragua. I picked up a box of these back in March, during a special that included a 5 pack of Robustos with every box purchase. As the box purchased was Robustos as well, it came out to be 30 sticks for about $105. The dark Corojo wrapper is invitingly oily and lightly veined. The construction suffers from a few bumps here and there, but this doesn't seem to affect the burn or draw. Over the course of a box plus, burn has been pretty consistently good, and draw slightly less so, with a handful being a bit tighter than I prefer. Most of the latter were in the first month, so it's probably safe to say that once stabilized in your humidor, it shouldn't be an issue. The initial light brings with it a blast of pepper. Within 1/4", that settles down to a pleasant light spiciness with a subtle, leathery finish. If you are one who can manage it, send some smoke out via the nostrils. You'll be rewarded with a pleasant little noze buzz. At the 1/3 point, the smoke takes on a chewier character. From there on out, the flavor and punch build nicely, but there are no significant changes. More than most, I find this smoke rewards patience and punishes haste-- don't over puff. I suppose I titled this "Old Reliable" because I found it to be a consistently pleasant (if not earth -shattering) smoke. At about $4 a stick, I think it's worth keeping a box on hand.
