Review Notes: These have mellowed very nicely, and quickly too. What used to be a fairly punchy Nicaraguan has turned into a mild to medium Dominican wannabe. A remnant of the woody core remains, but the bite is completely gone after storing these for about 18 months. Hints of vanilla and cherry gild the lily here. A fantastic bargain while they last.

"Soapy no more."

Review Notes: Since my last review in 06 the soapy taste has given way to flavors of vanilla, wood, flint, and earth, in no particular order, that make this a super bargain smoke. This special edition tribute cigar fell short of honoring a great tobacco grower but gave us an opportunity to smoke really good cigars at a great price.

"Unfortunate decline"

Review Notes: I suspect that since these cigars did not turn out to be a cash cow for Oliva, they have lowered the quality of the tobacco in the later shipments of these cigars. Even the wrapper does not seem to be as amazingly rich and flawless as that first 5-pack I bought at JR-Cigars when they first came out. Still not a bad cigar, but something's definately missing... maybe too much inconsistency. Have to say that construction has remained strong though.

"On eight months rest, sans cello"

Review Notes: Some have obnoxious veins. But like some CTBL sticks, they somehow look tasty even when they're ugly, if that makes any sense. Draw is top shelf. Burn line wobbles, but never enough to affect performance. Once you give this a few minutes to warm up, it's phenomenally complex. A distinct sweetness offsets the earth and spice on a long finish. As a value, I rank the entire Angel 100 line alongside bargain elites such as the Camacho H2, Padilla Achilles, GH #5, Fonseca Habana Seleccion and everything from LTC.

"I had high expectations..."

Review Notes: After reading some of the prior reviews of this cigar I had high hopes that it would be a delicious smoke at a bargain price. It is a fine bargain but ... Upon unwrapping this torpedo I was impressed with it's heft and appearance. A somewhat light colored Maduro it was toothy and well rolled with a slightly open seam in the wrapper. this did not prove to be any problem as this cigar did light up easily and burn completely evenly all the way through and had a absolutely perfect draw. The construction is very impressive. The ash was so firm it took a bit of an effort to shed it. The taste however did not meet the high standards previously mentioned. Medium bodied and strength the flavor was just that of an average Maduro, pleasant but not very complex or special. At around the halfway point a bitter unpleasant taste manifested itself but fortunately quickly disappeared. Perhaps this cigar is tastier in the Lonsdale size that I'll try next.
