"Sweet Maduro"

Review Notes: I smoked my first one of these just yesterday and was real happy with it, especially for the price. The cigar was constructed decently with some veins evident...but this is a look that I like in a cigar, similar to the look of the Fuente 858 Maduros. It smoked smoothly and burned evenly with a fairly substantial medium grey ash speckled with some black. The cigar produced plenty of creamy smoke. The first 3rd of the cigar was woodsey with a bit of spice and cocoa. The beginning of the second 3rd was about the same with just a bit more spiceyness. Near the end of the second 3rd there was definately notes of licorice detected which sweetened the smoke right up. This was a real surprise to me and immediately endeared me to this cigar as I'm particularly fond of sweet maduro's. The final third of the cigar contained all of the same notes but came on a bit stronger with some pepper joining the mix. I smoked this cigar rigtht down to the nub and enjoyed every bit of it.....it was about a one hour smoke. This cigar is comparable to the Fuentes 858's and the Partagas Maduro Toro's, and for about $1 less per stick.

"Overrated but worth the price"

Review Notes: Rave reviews got me to buy a box, and at the price, they are ok. The taste and smell are stultifying, heavy, woody, cardboard-y, not as strong or sweet as the dark color would lead you to believe. It has good construction, draw, etc, but just isn't a good smoke. I wouldn't hand them out to newbies for fear of putting them off smoking.

"Great Cigar"

Review Notes: The Onyx Reserve is the best value of any cigar currently in the market. It burns and draws perfect, in my experience, and is one of my go-to cigars, always reliable. It's medium-full, but with a smooth taste, unlike many similar-body cigars. Flavor has also been consistent cigar-to-cigar, and considering that you can buy the Toro for about $50 a box at reputable online retailers, the Onyx Reserve Toro is no brainer.

"Just average"

Review Notes: I wasn't really impressed with this cigar. It has a toothy wrapper, but spotty with some bumps. I lit it up, got it going even but it went out within 5 minutes. It could have been my fault but I never had that happen before. The taste started out with some coffee flavor, 2nd part still had the coffee with some nuttiness but had a harsh finish. Almost put it out but the last 3rd came through with some bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and a spicy finish and it lost most of the harshness. Draw started tight but got better. Overall it was just an average cigar, I might try another someday but right now for a good maduro smoke I'll stick to Padrons. I may have got a bad stick, at 54$ a box it would definitely be worth it if these were a little better.
