Review Notes:
okay...I've been a collector and smoker of cigars for a long time, but for a while lately, it was mostly ISOMs, (what a tool) and not until the last 18 months have fallen in love with the '64 Series. (more so than Serie 1926 in more instances than you'd think) and had smoked through a chunk of the line, received this box last week...having never tried a Principe, either Maduro or Natural, and I am SO glad I chose the Natural, because this current batch is what only they could sort as a 'Natural" wrapper. It's darker than any Cuban E.L. wrapper of late, and you know how dark some of those can get, but this was very dark and supremely supple, and seemed veinless. I would compare it only to an Opus X Double Corona I smoked recently. Both that and this were so oily that these sort of small 'oil slicks' appeared off and on throughout the smoke. The taste of this cigar was incredible. I hate to use the same analogy as I did for another Padron I reviewed, but it was quite an experience to smoke the small cigar and know that it would still be a star if all it had was the incredible depth of it's tobacco flavors to compete with. The slight floral/cedar notes in the beginning, the spiciness that is just perfect and the superb wood notes throughout the second half worked in perfect harmony to still allow the tobacco to be up front. Please do yourself a favor and try to get gold of some of these brilliant cigars while they're still affordable...I have given out 2 other 10's the whole time I've been a member, and this will be my third (BTW as of right now, there is a large amount of inventory out there right now, and I must say that these recent and current Padron '26 and '64 have been superb, while Opus X gets harder to find, more expensive, while they make so many more cigars each year then these guys...I believe that the cigar I just smoked will be labled as a 'classic' in the future.)
