Review Notes:
DATE: 2006/05/01
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: Por Larranga 1834
SIZE: 5.5" X 44
ORIGIN: Honduran?
WRAPPER: EMS?
BINDER: Unknown
FILLER: Unknown
SHAPE: Corona
AGE: Unknown - In my humidor a week or so
VENDOR: Gifted by Pegleg. (Thanks again)
AMBIENCE: 10:30 Monday night outside. Rather warm and humid
but no mosquitoes.
BEVERAGE: None
APPEARANCE: Beautifully smooth wrapper, very well made. And the
band removed very easily, which is a plus on all cigars
PRE_LIGHT: Smelled very good but not anything I could identify
as different from "very good cigar" smell.
DRAW: Firmly packed but a really easy draw, almost like a
Robusto cut instead of punched. I prefer to use a
3/16" punch on almost all cigars I smoke.
FIRST_THIRD: Very nice light, mild flavor and lots of smoke. Smoke
and saliva both gave that typical Conn-type-wrapper
taste which I usually don't like much. This cigar
could change my mind on light wrappers.
SECOND_THIRD: Grassy type flavor, still very mild, almost sweet.
Flavors blended in and out of each other with every
other puff. I like that.
FINAL_THIRD: Slightly stronger, with just a tiny bit of peppery
taste on the tongue. Smoke, ash & general taste
remained consistent. Smoked it down to 3/4".
BURN: I have just never seen such an even burn on a cigar
before. Amazed me.
ASH: Medium gray fluffy ash, held together very well.
SMOKE: Way more smoke than I'd have expected from this size
cigar, and it tasted very good, almost sweet.
STRENGTH: Mild, getting a little stronger at the end.
FLAVOUR: Grassy-floral with things my uneducated palate can't
really identify except to say I liked it all.
FINISH: Left that distinctive Conn-wrapper taste in my mouth
for a good 15 minutes, except that I liked it from
the Por Larranga, where usually I don't.
SMOKE_TIME: 50 mins. I smoked this slower than yesterday's cigar.
IMPRESSION: Most of the Conn-EMS wrapper cigars I've smoked have
been very delicate, and cracked easily and often.
This wrapper was almost perfect, and didn't develop
a single crack. I might look into getting a box of
these.
RATING: 7 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.
COMMENTS: Surprisingly enough, this cigar didn't cause me to
produce the large volumes of saliva that most of them
cause. That was either a result of the cigar or
something with me. I have one more of these, so will
test it again soon.
