Review Notes:
Despite the consistently good CA ratings, this is a brand I haven't paid much attention to. When I snagged one of these, I was intrigued but still skeptical. The wrapper was chestnut brown, perfectly uniform in color, with an oily sheen. No soft spots. The first half followed CA's review to the letter. Well balanced flavors, a solid med-full body. Good, but not spectacular. And then somewhere just past the halfway point, it started to change gears. Creamier and more complex with each hit, and distinct flavors started coming at me as fast as I could identify them. I kept hitting it to try to pick out the flavors ("Was that hazelnut or cashew? Cinnamon or nutmeg?"), but it seemed to change slightly every time. At risk of overstating the point, it developed the same quality as the second half of a good Hoyo DC -- at some point, you give up analyzing it and just let it rush over you. The only gripe was that the bunch seemed to burn a little faster than the wrapper, so I had to touch it up a few times. But that was likely my own doing, since I had stored it briefly in a humi that runs a bit soggy. Anyway, I like to think I'm a stingy grader, but this SLR was a seriously memorable stick. Maybe I just got a lucky one? Dunno, but I intend to find out. I need a box of these, stat!
