Review Notes:
I got a box of the maduros, I'm probably in the minority here, but I was curious...Made from the same small group of skilled rollers that brought you the Opus-X, I was expecting top-notch construction, and I was not let down...I was suprised to learn that this is thought of as a med-full bodied cigar (at least that was the marketing)...it is not. What it is however is a very good mild cigar, extremely smooth and creamy with very subtle silky flavors....curiously though, the finnish reminded me (very much) of that of cuban Bolivar (Royal Coronas, and Belicosos Finos [dress box, not cabinet]), GREEN PEPPER! eriely similar to the Bolivars, but no where near the strength or potency in flavor....I have to say , expecting at least a med-full, and finding no such thing, I was dissapointed, but I will not let that allow this review to become biased....It is a very good mild smoke, (in some ways familiar, in some ways unique) Could vaguely compare to Ashton aged maduros, but it has a sort of aroma and elements of flavor that are unique, I would definately recommend to begginers, or to those who just feel like an occasional mellow morning smoke, but make sure your palate is clean, or the subtlety of flavors will disappear entirely....As previously mentioned, the construction is flawless, a slow, even burner, and the wrappers are nearly veinless and are very attractive....prelight effects are unusual. Will be an occasional morning smoke for me, but nothing more. My box price leveled out to about $6 a stick, at this price I'd say it's a good value based soley on the Cuban Bolivar-esque Green Pepper finnish, and also that it is very much enhanced with a good diluted brandy...the finnish was a nice suprise...altough if you've never experienced "green pepper" in a cigar, you may be turned off. Will be interesting to see what aging in between some Diplomaticos No. 2s will do for this smoke.
