Review Notes: This cigar has changed. After an additional two months in the humi (this makes about 6 total) the smoke has first gotten more complex and a bit fuller bodied, not much but certainly enough to mention. Scotty described the taste of the Toro as “creamy wood and earth” which hits the nail pretty much on the head for this Robusto. However, with the additional body came a nice mixture of spice. What impressed me most was the burn, which was razor sharp and the ash. Folks, this was with out a doubt, the tightest ash I’ve seen in a long time plus this stick never required attention of any kind. My last review had the ash described as the “second ugliest ash….” Quite a turn around. Now the bad: within a ½ inch of being lit the wrapper split. So the dilemma is: how do you score a cigar with a very good burn and ash vs. the same cigar that generally started to fall apart? I guess you just have to say; “it’s a Gurkha.”

Review Notes: I was not overly impressed with the Vintage Toro so...being a gluten for punishment I gave the Robusto a whirl with some similar results. This cigar had a nice, smooth, mildly spicy flavor. The cigar on the whole was very mild…in fact, probably to mild for my taste. LOTS of creamy smooth smoke which seems to be characteristic of Gurkhas. Also characteristic of Gurkhas, the construction was poor, burn uneven and it had the second ugliest ash I’ve seen this year. Prior to cutting and lighting, this stick looked great but once cut/lit, it started to unravel. I had to give the cigar to much attention….a REAL negative in my book. I have a couple more in the humi and will leave them there for a while. A recent experience with the Gurkha CXX makes me believe this batch just needs a ton more time. I think this stick is better than my rating but time will tell.
