Review Notes: I bought a box of Diplomatico #2's opened it when I got home and noticed the color of the cigar was much lighter than I had seen in the past. The first one I smoked a few years ago had a dark brown shiny/ oily wrapper to it. The box I am speaking of currently had cigars of light brown coloration, perfect construction and all were nearly flawless, with barely any veins to speak of. The pre light smell was not necessarily distinct, I think the Montecristo number two definitely smells much stronger before lighting it, however, that is a much stronger cigar. Many people have left reviews of this cigar indicating it is medium to full bodied, I disagree completely. This cigar is mild to medium, and never in the past has been more than a medium cigar. In fact it is one of the lightest cuban cigars I have smoked. It is creamy, somewhat nutty, and although an awesome cigar, somewhat non-complex. The flavor is good enough for me not to care about complexity though. It is a great cigar to smoke earlier in the day with a cup of coffee. It only ashed twice the entire time i smoked it, and this seems to be typical of a well maintained Diplo 2. There was no real runs, and it never went out on me. All in all, this is a smoke I go back to when Im craving a straightforward mild to medium cuban. Lastly, because of its relative rarity, at least in the US, when comparing it to the Montecristo #2 or other cuban brands like Cohiba, I feel more like a connoisseur when I pull one of these out of my humidor. Not to degrade the greatness of Monte or Cohiba.
