Review Notes:
I always keep some of the Vintage line on hand, and it's for this very reason: if I want a solid smoke this is Captain Consistent. First of all, the wrapper is gorgeous: almost always vein free, dark and textured. Once you punch it, give it some time in your mouth before lighting it: it tastes amazing without having to even fire it up. With that said, give it some toasting, light it, let it settle and relax. I smoked the '92 with a cup of coffee on my patio, and remembered why it's always on hand. The smoke is volumous... the cigar takes little times settling into it's characteristicly semi-sweet, almost chocolate-like profile. The taste is amazing: the finish is silky smooth, it's nowhere near bitter even down to the nub. The only drawback is the burn. At times it can be uneven, and I have found a couple that had weak construction flaws in the filler. Happily, these are extremely minor and never hampered the experience. Easy draw, somewhat uneven burn (I'll live, they've never canoed or unraveled on me) and held a superbly firm ash: my ashtray speaks volumes for this smoke... three nearly identical 1.5" ashes, and a finger-burning nub. Always, always, always keep a few on hand... and tuck a few away: they age for the better.
