Review Notes: Dark maduro wrapper was rough and papery with medium veins. Some lumps and bumps in the construction including an obvious flat spot with a few folds in the wrapper and a rugged, slightly off center cap. Extremely solid feel and difficult pre-light draw. The cigar was encased in a long cedar sleeve with the new more colorful JR Ultimate Special Selection band at the top and a reproduction of the Honduran tobacco stamp at the foot. The cigar had a distinct pre-light aroma of cedar. The cap tasted slightly sweet. Lit easily and produced an initial very harsh and papery taste that faded quickly into a solid, somewhat rough and full-bodied flavor. The initial burn was uneven, but it settled quickly into a more even if slightly lopsided ring. The solid, variegated ash was very light, shot through with dark grey blotches and tapped off perfectly at inch long intervals. As it burned the flavor developed a strong vegetal overtone with a flat, somewhat metallic edge and finish. While this cigar was not unpleasant tasting, it was somewhat one-dimensional. Paired with a Guinness Draught, the cigar struggled a bit with the flavor of the draught, both fighting for dominance. Definitely a strong, powerful cigar heavy on the ligero, this was a meat and potatoes kind of smoke that smacked of the outdoors and manly pursuits like hunting or firewood cutting. Overall this was a solid if unimpressive offering that delivered straight ahead, no nonsense tobacco satisfaction. It might benefit from some additional time to allow the edge to blunt and the cedar to become more prominent. Might recommend.
