Review Notes: Razor sharp creases on a rectangular shaped cuadrado pressed cigar. One vein ran down the short side of the eerily smooth dark maduro wrapper. This cigar appeared shrink wrapped the skin was so form-fitted. The brown and tan band looked nice against the dark skin, and the nicely formed cap perched majestically on the head. The pre light flavor was evasive, hardly anything there when I tried it. Clipped clean and even and a nice medium draw set the pace. The flavor was light with some taste of dry grass and a touch of coffee flavor in the blend. The end of the flat cigar swelled as it burned, straining the tight wrapper. The cigar hissed and spit quietly as I puffed, like a steam iron warming up. The dirty gray ash was solid and strong with a few flakes here and there. The finish came across as highly pitched and slightly coppery, reminiscent of blood or cat food. The cigar burned well and never rushed me as I enjoyed it. Another cigar enjoyed by the fire, the aroma smelled faintly of cardboard, but was still quite pleasant with a cedar note that rang quietly. This particular cigar was squished in the box giving it a slightly trapezoidal shape, and near the head the sides were a bit concave. In the second half I picked up a few more flavors including the sweet charred taste of toasted marshmallow and yeast. Overall this was a pretty cigar with a nice presentation. The square press and smooth wrapper were remarkable and distinctive. There was not a lot of complexity in the smoke, but it had a nice pleasant flavor. Recommended.

Review Notes: Nice chocolate brown Cameroon wrapper with a few small veins and very minor tooth. The cigar sported a stately black and gold band, large in size with attractive embossing. Well applied cap clipped cleanly with no tearing. Constructed with a firm roll and exhibited an excellent pre-light draw. Lit easily and burned straight and even throughout. Medium bodied with a slightly nutty overtone, the flavor was pleasant with a small amount of spiciness. A large amount of mouth filling smoke billowed dense and white and filled the room with rich tobacco scent. The cigar drew perfectly, not too hard or easy, and the ash was firm and well behaved all the way to the band. Accompanied with a Cappuccino, the Merlin was a fine complement to the cinnamon and rich cream. The finish was measured and pleasant with a slight lingering bite. Appropriate for mid day to evening, the cigar would hold its own with all but the most spicy and heavy foods. Overall this was an excellent cigar that embodied the Excalibur lineís consistency and quality while adding an additional dimension of depth and flavor. Recommended.
