Review Notes: Flashy band and nice perfecto shape. Easy to light, but you have to stay on it to keep it lit for the first half of the cigar or it’s going to go out in an instant. Draw is firm. Burn is uneven and does not correct itself. Almost immediately after lighting, the wrapper started to develop cracks halfway down the cigar. The cracks worsened, and the wrapper began to unravel slightly, but fortunately this stopped after a little bit and didn’t interfere with the burn. The initial flavor is intensely spicy, but this gradually fades into a milder, pleasant spiciness. It is quite mellow, in fact, and the spice is consistently present but not too harsh. There is also a distinct toastiness that is particularly evident in the pleasantly mellow, but short-lived, finish. Becomes more rich and fuller-bodied toward the center, and an oak flavor becomes significant. Overall, the flavor is very mellow, pleasant and well-balanced, but it is one-dimensional as there are no flavors other than those basic ones mentioned. I got this as part of a sampler for CI for $2.99, and for that price it is a decent smoke (cigars this well-balanced and mellow are hard to find at that price) but the MSRP of $20-30 is ridiculous. Despite the construction issues (uneven burn and defective wrapper) this cigar overall isn’t bad, but it is definitely not “worthy of a sultan” as advertised (this cigar is advertised as having been the daily cigar of the Sultan of Brunei).
