Review Notes: Lovely, moderately dark, oily wrapper. Wrapper cracked upon cut, though, and about a half inch by half inch part of the wrapper simply sheared off. Draw is very firm. Tough to light and takes a little work to get it going, but once you build up a stable burn it will maintain itself without any trouble, providing a good quantity of silky smoke. The burn is slightly uneven, but it corrects itself. The flavor is quite pleasant: initially there is a strong cocoa flavor, but this soon transforms into a combination of earthiness and coffee. The finish is long-lasting, smooth and is dominated by the coffee. About a half-inch in, these flavors are joined by a moderate spiciness. It’s a well-rounded and quite mellow! This is what the Gurkha Signature 101 Maduro should have been. The only flaws are the initial cracking of the wrapper, and the draw could stand to be a little looser.
