Review Notes: Bought a box of these on cbid for 42 bucks, with shipping that was under 2 bucks each. I had my first Black Pearl Rojo without knowing a thing about them, and thought it was quite nice. This box of supertotos has a big corner sticker "rated 90 Outstanding Cigar Aficionado". Great, just great, when cigars are hyped you know what that does to quality and price. Opening the box I move aside the spider-web glassine paper and inside I see 20 nice looking cigars. Cigar on the right in each layer has the celophane folded on top, so they are easier to remove from the box. Opening a few cigars from the celophane I see they have a nice little pigtail and appear very well rolled, nice caps, only fine veins, consistent chestnut brown wrappers. The smell from the cigar wrappers is excellent, slightly sweet tobacco. Dry draw tasted mild tobacco. Draw on punch was excellent. I have smoked three of these in the fast few days. One burned horribly, of course I was driving and it was hard to correct without stopping. The other two either burned well or had minor issues I was able to correct. Ecuadorian-grown Criollo wrapper, Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers. I read somwplace that Torano has a hand in the production, looking at the excellent construction of these guys I would not be surprised. Rolling was firm, loaded with fine tobacco. I toasted the foot and lit them up and found a medium body nutty toasted tobacco character that I liked. I've been running through LGC R5s like crazy lately and just love the full sweetc haracter those have. These Rojos I find milder, medium bodied I suppose, with nice but not spectacular flavor. I think what I paid was a more than fair price for these guys.
