Review Notes: A few months ago while on a business trip, I found a cigar shop that had plenty of AF Hemingway Best Sellers in stock at about $5.60 a stick. I quickly grabbed a handful of singles to try while there, thinking I would buy a box if I liked them. Given this cigar's ultra-high ratings at the time, I was expecting a transcendental experience--but the magic just wan't there, so I just kept the few that I had remaining. On the flight home, I was kicking myself for passing up the opportunity to stock up; maybe I had been too rash in passing judgment. I stashed the remainder in my humidor, letting them age. But when I smoked one tonight, it was deja vu: a strong, but not especially flavorful smoke, lacking richness and complexity. It stayed consistent, with only a faint trace of coffee and chocolate every now and then. The construction was awesome; the ash held on tight like a limpet on a rock. But without the expected flavor, the value and overall experience plummet. The AF Don Carlos #4 is much the superior premium smoke, and the Padron 2000 I had last night puts the Best Seller to shame. This Hemingway would be okay at half the price, but it's certainly not worth the money as it stands.
