Review Notes: The local cigar shop had a Rocky Patel tasting night, so I bought a few including this 1990 Toro. It looked beautiful, but it ended up ruining my Sunday afternoon due to its amazingly terrible construction. Its dark wrapper promised a wealth of flavor, even though the cap was a bit sloppy. A small punch yielded an easy draw, but a half-inch into the burn the wrapper split at the three-quarter point, and the split kept spreading. Therefore, the burn crept under the loosened wrapper, which destroyed the nice flavor I had only begun to enjoy. Once the burn passed the split portion, I managed to get things evened out only to have a second split form at the one-third point. This split started as a small flaking of the wrapper, but then it grew and burst the whole wretched thing open. I have a few more Patels on hand; I hope these burn better!

"Smooth and complex in flavor"

Review Notes: Even though this cigar is a bit larger than I usually prefer, I couldn't stop myself from smoking it down to the nub. My local shop hosted a Rocky Patel tasting and the 1990 Toro is what they gave me. First impression: So smooth! From light-up to the nub, it was never harsh in the least. And it also displayed a fantastic degree of complexity, with some citrus, nougat, mocha, faint sweetness and more, all intermingling and coming and going. I was so impressed I left with a fisful of various sizes of the 1990s, plus some Indian Tabac Boxers. I would make this a regular in my humi, but they're a little pricier than the Padrons I usually smoke. On the other hand, they're not exorbitant in cost, so maybe I'll end up with a box after I finish these singles!
