2001 Partagas Serie D # 4 (PSD4), 4 7/8 X 50
Storage: 60 – 63 RH at 60 – 68 F.
Construction: Nice glossy/oily dark tan wrapper with two medium veins and a
minor “frogs eye”. Solidly rolled with no soft spots. Clipped clean.
Prelight: Toasty, rich tobacco aroma and medium-firm draw.
Burn: Lit evenly, straight burn with no touch-ups, solid but lightly flaky
charcoal-grey ash.
Smoking Notes: Initial impression is a smooth, rich, thick, oily smoke with
wood, toast and cream flavors. The finish is lightly salty and floral. The aroma
is woody, spicy and floral. Half way, the cigar is a constantly shifting mix of
sweet spices, coffee, wood, toast, leather and floral notes around a core of
rich tobacco. By 2/3, the smoke has shifted to very rich, heavy tobacco and
sweet wood with light coffee and cocoa notes. Never became bitter or tarry as I
smoked it to the nub and. An excellent 1 hour plus smoke.
Overall Impression: A medium-full smoke, the PSD4 is very consistent and rarely
fails to impress. I rate it a big beautiful A, but the PSD4 is a favorite so
I’m admittedly biased.
