Right off the bat, my eyes are attracted to the Casa Toraño Robusto's decorative band. It displays the cigar's moniker over some very attractive graphics, and you can tell that the Toraño's put some time into its design. The wrapper has a nice golden brown color with a slight sheen of oil. A few small veins are present, but the overall texture is smooth. The cigar seems to be tightly packed with tobacco and has zero soft spots. There's a pre-light barnyard aroma, while the cold taste is of cedar.
Once the cigar is in action, it burns like a charm. The draw is just right, and there's plenty of smoke produced throughout the entire experience. The light gray ash is solid. Zero touch-ups or re-lights are needed, so there are no complaints here in that respect.
Moving into the flavor department, the Casa Toraño Robusto continues to impress. It's not the most complex cigar around, but it is definitely smooth and relaxing. The first third begins with cedar, as well as a lot of creaminess. The second third offers just a kick of mild spice, as well as some nuts. Wrapping up the flavor profile in the final third is earthy and more cedar. Mild is absolutely the correct description for this cigar.
Will the Casa Toraño Robusto knock your socks off? It's doubtful, but it is a quality smoke nonetheless. The cigar's construction was excellent, and the burn was about as good as I could have hoped for. The flavors were not complex, but they were soothing, which is what was expected. This cigar would be perfect for a beginner or someone who loves milder selections. A Sunday morning with a cup of coffee would be the perfect scenario. The Casa Toraño Robusto comes in packs of five or boxes of 25, with a single hovering around the $4 to $5 mark. I'd call that a fair price, considering the quality of the product.
The Casa Toraño Robusto earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
