At first glance, the Classic Torpedo definitely carries the look of a premium stick. The wrapper is medium-brown in color and has a good amount of oil on the surface. There are no major imperfections. Only a few minor veins are visible. The cigar also appears to be well-packed and firm to the touch. The red, gold, and white band that displays the 5 Vegas Classic name is eye-catching. Just before lighting, the cold taste and pre-light aroma are of cedar.
It doesn't take long to light this Torpedo, and once lit, it burns well for the most part. The draw is good and there's a nice volume of smoke produced. The gray ash is solid as well. The burn is mostly even, but it does require a couple of touch-ups along the way.
When it comes to the Classic Torpedo's flavor, I wouldn't call it overly complex. That being said, it is a smooth smoke that does not fail to entertain. The flavors are kicked off with earth and coffee. These transition to some cedar in the second third. There's also plenty of creaminess at about the halfway mark. The final third offers up some mild spice.
The Classic Torpedo is another solid cigar from 5 Vegas. I'm not so sure it matches the hype of some of its high ratings from critics, but it's definitely a quality cigar. Beginners or fans of smooth and creamy cigars should find the Classic appealing. What's most appealing is its price. At around $4 per single, you get a lot of bang for your buck, making the Classic Torpedo a solid pick as an everyday smoke. You can also find it in boxes of 20.
The 5 Vegas Classic Torpedo earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
