La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet No. 5

In contrast to the Double Ligero Lancero Cameroon, the Cameroon Cabinet No. 5 is one of the milder selections from La Flor Dominicana.  It is also pretty hard to find, as only 500,000 were made.  Production of the cigar, which had been previously released, was halted a few years ago as founder Litto Gomez wanted to let the Cameroon wrapper leaves age more.

The Cameroon Cabinet No. 5 measures 5x50 in its robusto vitola.  The Cabinet also comes in two other sizes: the No. 1 which measures 6.5x44 and the No. 4 which measures 6.25x54.  It has a filler blend of tobacco from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.  The binder is Dominican as well.  It has an aged Ligero Cameroon wrapper which is the key reason for the Cabinet’s limited production, as only aged wrappers are permitted in the construction of this stogie.   It is considered to be medium-bodied.

The presentation of the Cameroon Cabinet No. 5 is, in a word, simple.  You won’t find any bands here, so make sure you label it somehow in case you leave it lying around naked or you could forget what it is.  The aged Cameroon wrapper gives the cigar a dark, oily appearance.  It has several prominent veins that are visible, and has a little give when you press your fingers against it.  It has an earthy scent and taste prior to lighting.

After striking a match to it, the cigar burns evenly throughout.  It has a good draw and nice ash as well.  You won’t have to worry about keeping your lighter nearby, as it does well on its own without the need for any relighting or touchups.  The flavors are pretty good, adhering to the medium-bodied profile.  You get a good bit of cedar as well as some nutty tones.  Some cocoa makes its way in along with a creamy taste.

The Cameroon Cabinet No. 5 is an all around solid cigar.  Though it lacks any flashy bands or coverings, it’s what is on the inside that counts.  The flavor is enough to keep you interested, and the burn is about as good as it gets.  You can get a single for around $8, or go the whole nine yards and pick up a very voluminous box of 50.  Fans of Cameroon wrappers should definitely give it a shot.  La Flor Dominicana earns a 3.5 star rating for its Cameroon Cabinet No. 5.

I hope you enjoyed my reviews on these two La Flor Dominicana cigars.  Give them a shot, that is, if you can find them!
