The Straight Jacket comes in several sizes - the Gordo, Robusto, Toro, and Double Churchill. That's 6x60, 5x50, 6x54, and a whopping 7x70 going down the line. The country of origin for these bad boys is the Honduras, being rolled in the El Aladino factory. The wrapper is dark brown and oily, with a nice amount of veins, reminding me of a giant coffee bean left out in the sun. Poetry you can stick in your mouth.

Both the binder and filler here are made of Nicaraguan leaf, as is the wrapper, Nicaraguan Habano to be precise. It smells suspiciously like the Mayimbe above, with notes of chocolate, citrus, spice, and warm bread. The cold draw was more of the same.

Again, great construction - especially considering the midline price (about 8 bucks a cigar). A few minor touch-ups but no relights needed. Ash was pretty firm and last almost through the first half - it could have been a little longer for my taste. Plenty of heady smoke, good draw and nice burn.

The first third presented some good tastes: spice, pepper (a good amount!), bread, and nuttiness. After that it flowed into more of the same, with a touch of fruity goodness. It wrapped up in an intriguing way, adding chocolate, nougat, cream, more nuttiness, and sweetness - like a big ole Snickers bar. Definitely a great flavor ride.

I really, really enjoy the flavor and the power of this cigar. Not for the beginner, certainly. It lets you know that it’s there without a doubt! For the price, I would say definitely grab this one. In fact, I would even pay around $12 a pop for these, so take note!

Asylum Straight Jacket earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
