room101room101 namakubi ecuador papi chulo

Right off the bat, the first thing I notice about the Namakubi Ecuador Papi Chulo is its pair of attractive bands.  The top band features the Namakubi name in red and black, while the second band has the Ecuador name stamped on it in a silver, red, and white color scheme.  The wrapper has a good amount of oil and is free of any major imperfections.  There are a few minor veins that are visible, but nothing more.  The cigar feels firm to the touch and is free of any soft spots.  The cap appears to be perfect.  As I give the Papi Chulo a whiff, I notice an earthy and spicy scent.  The cold taste, on the other hand, is of wood.

After striking the Room101 Namakubi Ecuador with my lighter, it’s nothing but smooth sailing.  The burn is razor sharp and requires zero touch-ups.  The cigar also stays lit on its own.  The draw is good and plenty of smoke is produced.  The solid gray ash holds past an inch.  We are good to go in this department.

As far as flavor is concerned, the Namakubi Ecuador has a solid amount of complexity.  Some wood, pepper, and earth make up the first third.  The pepper offers a nice wakeup call, but is not overpowering.  It continues into the second third and intermingles with cedar, nuts, and coffee. The final third is more cedar, earth, and coffee.  Medium to full-bodied seems to fit the cigar to a T.

Did the Namakubi Ecuador live up to my expectations?  Yes, it did.  It did not blow me away, but I was impressed with the overall appearance, construction, and flavor.  I would definitely suggest it to experienced smokers looking for something flavorful with a bit of a kick.  You should also try it if you enjoyed the original Namakubi from Room101.  A single costs $6, and you can also find boxes of 50.

The Room101 Namakubi Ecuador Papi Chulo earns a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
