At first glance, the AVO Limited Edition 2011 definitely carries the look of a premium stick. The Diademas format looks to be done to perfection, and its uniqueness is a joy to look at. The wrapper is medium-brown in color and has a good amount of oil on the surface. There are no major imperfections. Only a few minor veins are visible. The cigar also appears to be well-packed and firm to the touch. Two classy decorative bands showcase the AVO logo and the 85th Anniversary label. Just before lighting, the cold taste is of cedar, while the scent is sweet.
It doesn't take long to light the Diademas, and once lit, it burns well for the most part. The draw is good and there's a nice volume of smoke produced. The gray ash is solid too. The burn is mostly even, but it does require a couple of touch-ups along the way. No re-lights are needed.
When it comes to the AVO Limited Edition 2011’s flavor, I would say that there is a good amount of complexity offered, while remaining smooth at the same time. The flavors are kicked off with sweetness, mild spice, and cedar. These transition to creaminess in the second third that is accompanied by more cedar and sweetness. The final third offers up cedar, nuts, and wood.
The AVO Limited Edition 2011 is another solid cigar from AVO, and it passed the test in all aspects. Beginners or fans of smooth and creamy cigars should find the Limited Edition 2011 appealing. What is not so appealing is its price. At around $17 per single, you do not have an everyday smoke on your hands. That being said, it is a good pick for special occasions when you want to celebrate with class. Look for the AVO Limited Edition 2011 in boxes of ten or packs of five, but do not delay, as its limited status could leave you empty handed.
The AVO Limited Edition 2011 earns a rating of 3.75 out of four stars.
