If you are looking to add some quality cigars to your humidor as the year comes to a close, you’re going to want to read these reviews of the AVO 2013 Limited Edition The Dominant 13th and the Padron 4000 Natural.

AVO 2013 Limited Edition The Dominant 13th

Davidoff has made a habit of releasing special limited edition cigars over the last 11 years to help celebrate the birthday of Avo Uvezian, the man behind AVO cigars.  For 2013, The Dominant 13th takes the stage to keep this ongoing tradition alive.  Uvezian is now 87 years old, but that hasn’t stopped him from attending events across the United States to help promote this cigar.  As for its name, The Dominant 13th refers to the Dominant 13th chord.  Uvezian is a jazz musician, after all, and each of his limited edition smokes have been named after something music-related.  With that out of the way, let’s see what this cigar has to offer.

The AVO 2013 Limited Edition The Dominant 13th comes in just one format: a Toro that measures 6 x 52.  The cigar has quite the composition, which begins with a filler of four different Dominican tobaccos blended with a bit of Peruvian tobacco.  The binder is Dominican as well, but of a different variety.  Topping off The Dominant 13th is an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper from the year 2000.  In terms of strength, The Dominant 13th is said to be smooth and medium-bodied.

The first thing I notice when looking at The Dominant 13th is its pair of decorative bands.  The band near the head features the AVO log, while the one beneath it is smaller and showcases the cigar’s name.  Both have a brown, white, and gold color scheme that are extremely classy, and I especially like the gold accents that adorn both.  The wrapper is medium brown in color with a reddish tint.  Its texture is quite smooth with just a little bit of oil.  There are hardly any veins, and no imperfections are present.  Prior to lighting, there’s a rich aroma of earth and cedar, while the cold taste is nutty.

Once lit, the AVO The Dominant 13th exhibits a solid burn.  The draw is good and I get plenty of thick smoke.  The aroma is pleasing and the ash is sturdy.  Only two minor touch-ups are needed.  No re-lights are necessary.  All in all, I really have no complaints in this department.  Smoking time is about one hour and 30 minutes total.
