AVO Limited Edition 2012 La Trompeta
In keeping with tradition over the years, the AVO brand of cigars released its Limited Edition 2012 La Trompeta to celebrate the 86th birthday of its founder, Avo Uvezian. If you are familiar with the brand, you probably know that Uvezian had a storied career in the music industry, so it comes as no surprise that this special cigar has a musical tone to it. The La Trompeta moniker refers to the trumpet, and the cigar even has a clever aesthetic touch in the form of three dots beneath its decorative bands to represent the valves found on a trumpet.
The Limited Edition 2012 La Trompeta comes in a Piramide format and measures 6 1/2 x 54. It is the only format produced by AVO for this limited line. The cigar sports a filler blend of tobaccos from Peru and the Dominican Republic. The binder is Dominican as well, and an Ecuadorian Sungrown wrapper completes the composition. Strength-wise, the 2012 La Trompeta is said to be medium-bodied.
In terms of appearance, the AVO Limited Edition 2012 is very eye-catching. The cigar itself is oily, and the wrapper has an inviting chocolate brown color. Some very minor veins are present, and the cigar feels firm to the touch. No soft spots are detected. The cigar's decoration is superb. The top band showcases the AVO logo, while the one beneath it carries the La Trompeta name over a silhouette of Avo Uvezian. Just beneath the second band are the aforementioned dots that represent the trumpet valves. Before lighting, the cigar's cold taste is sweet, and it has an aroma of coffee.
The Limited Edition 2012 La Trompeta’s burn is even from beginning to end. There is plenty of smoke produced, and the cigar burns slowly. The gray ash is on the solid side, and the draw is just right. No touch-ups or re-lights are needed.
