Cabaiguan Guapos RX
Cabaiguan is a line of cigars that comes from the creative mind of Pete Johnson, the man best known for his successful Tatuaje brand. The Cabaiguan is named after the capital city of Cuba’s Sancti Spiritus province, which is also the home of some of the nation’s most talented cigar makers. Not surprisingly, the Cabaiguan was created with the old Cuban style of cigars in mind. I've heard some good things about the Cabaiguan Guapos and have enjoyed some of Pete Johnson’s selections from Tatuaje in the past, so this RX I’m about to light up should be a good one.
The Cabaiguan Guapos RX, or Robusto Extra, measures 5 1/4 x 50. The cigar also comes in the following sizes: the 4 x 32 Petite Cabaiguan, 5 x 52 Belicosos Finos, 5 5/8 x 46 Coronas Extra, and 7 x 47 Imperiales. The cigar’s filler is Nicaraguan, and so is its binder. Last, but not least, is the Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper. In terms of strength, the Cabaiguan Guapos line is said to be medium to full-bodied. Production takes place in Miami at Don Pepin Garcia's factory.
The first impression I get while looking at the Cabaiguan Guapos RX is definitely a positive one, beginning with the neatly done triple cap. The wrapper is oily and medium-brown in color. The decorative band blends in nicely with the wrapper and showcases the Cabaiguan name. The cigar is firm to the touch and has only a few minimal veins. Construction appears to be excellent. The pre-light aroma is spicy, while the cold taste is sweet, giving me the best of both worlds.
As far as the Guapos’ burn goes, it's satisfactory overall and presents zero negative issues. The draw is excellent. The ash is light gray in color and stays solid for well over an inch. The burn does not waver at all and remains even throughout the cigar. No re-lights are needed.
