I don't know if the Oro Reserva VOR No. 5 lives up to its hype as of yet, but I can definitely say that it's one of the best looking cigars I have seen. The oily wrapper looks wonderful, and only some minor veins are present. The box-pressed shape catches the eye as well, and the triple cap is done to perfection. The VOR No. 5 differs in appearance from other Oro sizes in that it comes with two decorative bands. The band near the top displays the Viaje logo, while the one beneath it bears the Reserva label in gold and black. Both bands look great and add an elegant aura to the cigar. The VOR No. 5 feels firm to the touch and has no soft spots. Its cold taste is of mild spice, while the aroma is sweet.
As far as its burn is concerned, the the VOR No. 5 is satisfactory. The draw is superb. The light gray ash is a tad flaky, however. The burn is even from beginning to end and requires no touch-ups. Re-lighting is not necessary either.
Viaje definitely succeeded in making a complex cigar here. There are no dull moments to be had while smoking the Reserva VOR No. 5, and the transitions are perfect. The cigar begins with a nice kick of spice, and this continues for the majority of the first third. The spice is then joined by some leather. The second third is characterized by rich coffee notes and a good amount of sweetness. The final third finishes things off with very tasty cocoa. All in all, the VOR No. 5 is extremely smooth.
The Viaje Oro Reserva VOR No. 5 has received plenty of hype, and after smoking it, I must say that the hype is warranted. I was impressed from the jump with its impeccable appearance, and this positive impression continued through the burn and the flavor of the cigar. It offered a lot of complexity and was like having a dessert. That being said, the VOR No. 5 is a good choice as an after dinner cigar for a more experienced smoker. If you love flavor, this is the cigar for you. It comes in boxes of 25 or boxes of five. Singles sell in the range of $10 each. The supply is limited, so if you get the chance to pick one up, do not pass up the opportunity.
The Viaje Oro Reserva VOR No. 5 receives a rating of 3.5 out of four stars.
